Information San Mauro Mare

A city of ancient origins, San Mauro was founded by nomadic peoples after the period of barbarian invasions in Italy, and was subsequently taken over by the Malatesta Family from Rimini during the rise of the Signoria. Its original  name, San Mauro di Romagna, was turned into San Mauro Pascoli in 1932 to celebrate the poet Giovanni Pascoli who was born here.

Completely destroyed during World War II, San Mauro was fully rebuilt by local inhabitants, who turned  it into an important farming centre gathering large numbers of shoemakers.

The substantial tourist development experienced by the Riviera Romagnola, which was driven by the establishment of numerous summer camps and the increased wellbeing of the Italian population, led to the creation of the small coastal resort of San Mauro Mare: comfortable accommodation facilities, hotels and bathing establishments attract large numbers of tourists and make San Mauro Mare one of the pivotal points of the vast coastline.

Today, San Mauro Mare is one of the privileged holiday destinations of the Riviera Romagnola because of its proximity with Romagna’s most important resorts and the fact it gathers a large number of comfortable accommodation facilities which offer high-quality services.
